Georgius Rothfeld

Georgius Rothfeld was born on February 27, 1792, in a small village in Austria. He is the son of a First Lieutenant serving in the Austrian army, but nothing is known about his mother. Georgius looked up to his father and aspired to become a soldier himself. At sixteen years old, he joined the Austrian military forces and underwent intensive training due to the high demand for new recruits caused by the ongoing Napoleonic Wars. During his training, he witnessed many of his comrades being deployed to the front lines, never to be seen again.   In August 1813, Georgius participated in his first battle at Dresden under the command of General Schwarzenberg. The Allies aimed to defeat Napoleon, but despite their superior numbers, they were defeated due to Napoleon's tactical skills and reinforcements. Following this, Georgius fought at Kulm under General Vandamme, and this time, the Allied forces consisting of Austrian and Russian troops emerged victorious. However, Georgius sustained a significant injury, resulting in a prominent scar on his forehead, and lost many of his comrades. These experiences led to mental trauma and a nervous breakdown for Georgius. He spent several months in a field hospital, where he was briefly treated by Mariëtte. Georgius considered her the angel who saved him.   In the meantime, the Allied forces achieved victory at the Battle of Leipzig. Georgius would have fought in this battle if he was not injured. He felt ashamed and bitter that he did not achieve this victory himself. Nonetheless, Georgius and his surviving comrades were welcomed in Austria as heroes. Georgius was able to advance through the military ranks and became a colonel.   After the Napoleonic War, Georgius began searching for his angel, Mariëtte, who had returned to her home country in France. Using his connections, he managed to get in touch with her as she was working in a small hospital near the Swiss border. Through letters, he persuaded her to meet in Basel. Despite some initial hesitation, Mariëtte eventually agreed, and they began a long-distance relationship that lasted for two years. In 1818, Georgius proposed to her, and she accepted. Mariëtte then moved to Austria to live with Georgius, and the couple got married on March 29, 1818.   On June 7, 1837, their son Aloysius was born. His birth brought great joy to the family, especially for Georgius, who longed for a son. From his birth, he saw him achieve high ranks in a military career, continuing the line of successful military personnel in the Rothfeld family. But the care for their son suddenly changed Georgius's personality. He became overprotective of the child and increasingly suffered from nightmares, flashbacks, and periods of depression. He sometimes even became violent towards his wife and son, which he deeply regretted later.   When it became apparent that Aloysius wanted to pursue a medical career, Georgius lost it. He pushed his son to follow in his footsteps until he finally relented. But that did not change the situation. With Aloysius out of the house for his training, Mariëtte had to take most of the blows. In 1859, she decided to flee the home, leaving Georgius alone. With this, rumours started spreading about his abusive behaviour. In a split second, everything Georgius had worked for was shattered into pieces. He sought comfort in drinking, which only worsened his condition.   On New Year's Eve, January 1, 1860, Georgius committed suïcide by hanging. Shortly before, he disinherited Aloysius and left his estate and savings to his direct family. Also, he prepared a letter stating his son and wife were not welcome at the funeral. Unlike the custom of being buried, Georgius wished to be cremated, and his ashes spread out in an unknown location so nobody could find him again. According to local rumours, the site is somewhere on the battlefield where he was wounded and lost most of his comrades.   Georgius is a strong but slender man, measuring 1.92 m and weighing about 78kg. He has a pale complexion, deep-set blue eyes, and grey hair. He is known to be very strict but also has a great sense of humour.
