Mariëtte Bruére
April 14, 1795
Mariëtte Bruere was born on April 14, 1795, in a small village in southern France. She had a happy and quiet childhood, spending most of her time with the locals and the surrounding nature of southern France. Her mother was a trained nurse, and Mariëtte was inspired by her to pursue a career in nursing. She underwent training and started working at a local hospital. During the war, a family member in Prussia asked her to come and work at the local hospital there. Mariëtte took this opportunity and travelled there. It was a very restless time, with revolutions breaking out everywhere in Europe. When the wars broke out, Mariëtte worked in field hospitals of the Allied forces, secretly abandoning her home state of France and siding with the Allies. One of her patients was Georgius Rothfeld, who was wounded and suffered mental trauma. Mariëtte was able to treat and calm him down. When he was dismissed, she did not think she would ever see Georgius again.
After the war, she was contacted by a connection of Georgius who informed her that he was looking for her and wanted to meet up. Initially, Mariëtte declined but became very curious as to why he was looking for her. At the time, she was working in a hospital close to the border of Switzerland, and the two agreed to meet in Basel. It was there that they decided to start a two-year long-distance relationship. In 1818, Georgius asked her to marry him, and she accepted. The couple wed on March 29, 1818.
On June 7, 1837, they welcomed their son, Aloysius Rothfeld. His birth brought great joy to the new family, especially for Georgius, who longed for a son. He wanted him to pursue a military career like him and his ancestors, continuing the line of successful soldiers. The first years were the happiest years of Mariëtte's life. They had a house, a family, status, and wealth. However, Mariëtte started to notice some strange behaviour in Georgius. He was very protective over the child and over her, and she sometimes felt smothered by him. When she tried to talk with him about it, Georgius became aggressive or locked himself away. He was increasingly bothered by nightmares, flashbacks, and periods of depression.
When Aloysius expressed his interest in pursuing a medical career instead of the military path preferred by his father, Georgius lost it. He pressured his son until Aloysius eventually gave in, but this did not change his father's behaviour. When Aloysius left home for military training, Mariëtte had to take all the blows. In 1859, she decided to escape and sought refuge with friends in Austria and rumours of Georgius's abusive behaviour spread. Through her family she fled to Prussia, attempting to distance herself as much as possible from Georgius. When Aloysius learned of this, he arranged an apartment for her in the city of Lutheria and promised to move in with her as soon as he could leave.
On January 2, 1860, Mariëtte learned that Georgius had committed suicide. Although it was somewhat of a relief, Mariëtte felt guilty for not being able to help Georgius with his problems. She knew he was a good man, but he had seen and experienced so much that it eventually got the best of him. She wanted to attend the funeral with her son, but Georgius had prepared a letter stating that they were not welcome. He had disinherited them and wished to be cremated instead of being buried, with his ashes spread out in an unknown location.
After this hectic period, Aloysius started visiting Mariëtte more often. He moved in with her permanently after he finished his initial military service and was given the opportunity to retire. They now live together in the apartment that Aloysius bought for her.
Mariëtte has a round face and tanned skin. She has big, brown, caring eyes and thick, black, curly hair. She has a gentle and caring character but a strong opinion and a good sense of humor.
