Joël Silbers was born on January 23, 1817, as the long-awaited son of David Silbers and Lena Silbers. He was born in a small apartment above his father’s Silbers butchery in the city of Lutheria. Joël was brought up Jewish in one of the few Jewish families in the region, with their Shul (Shul Zohar) being in the city of Lutheria. As the eldest child, Joël is destined to take over the business after his father’s passing. He started helping his father when he was around fourteen years old, mainly doing cleaning and charming the customers in the shop. When he got older, his father taught him the trade, and he helped him at the back with the meat preparations while his mother and younger sister, Elsbeth Silbers, served at the front desk.
In 1848, the Silbers family started searching for a partner for Joël to marry. One of their main goals was to secure benefits for both families. Esther Muller received a modest dowry after her father’s passing, and her foster parents suggested marrying Esther to Joël in exchange for a portion of that dowry. The Silbers agreed to the proposal, and the match between Joël and Esther was arranged. The couple spent several months together to get to know each other, although it was challenging and awkward for them.
Encouraged by their families, Joel and Esther got married on April 5, 1849. Their marriage initially felt forced, especially with Joel (like his father) working most of the time. However, as time passed, the couple gained more respect for each other and their relationship improved.
On January 4, 1853, Joel’s father, was found dead in his bed by his wife. He passed away quietly in his sleep. From that moment on, Joël became the owner of the butchery, and he continued to manage it in the same way his father and grandfather did. His hard work meant his family could live a comfortable life in the city. Unfortunately, David Silbers did not live long enough to hear about Esther’s pregnancy. On November 8, 1853, his granddaughter Louise Silbers was born. Although it was not the son they expected, Louise was welcomed joyously by her family.
Joël has thin black hair, blue eyes, and a determined and empathetic expression. He is always quite noticeable and tends to speak loudly. Joël maintains a strong posture, standing at around 180cm tall and weighing 112kg. He exhibits an impressive work ethic and spends the rest of his time dedicated to working for the Jewish community.
