THE FLAG OF THE REPUBLIC

Official Journal of the Free and Virtuous Nation of Guntreland
7th Day of Felinoz, Year XX of the Republic (excerpts)

CIVIC CELEBRATIONS IN EUSTATA

EUSTATA, 30th Day of Vulpiose. — Seventy-three captured soldiers of Tildeland, who by their own will or by the vicissitudes of war have alighted upon the sacred soil of the Republic of Guntreland, and who have solemnly declared, in their political interrogatories, that they preferred the Liberty of Mankind to the servitude of a tyrant, were yesterday received into the bosom of our Republic.

By free and unanimous decision of the Civic Jury, which judged that their admission to citizenship would bring more benefit than detriment to the common good of our Exalted Republic, the said soldiers were publicly sworn as Citizens of the Republic of Guntreland, within the People’s Palace of Citizen Aubert at Eustata, in the presence of Republican Magistrate Citizen Heiliger Holbl, and before a great assembly of virtuous citizens.

DECISION OF THE COMMAND OF THE DEPARTMENT OF NATIONAL EDUCATION

6th Day of Felinose. — The Citizen Commander of the Department of National Education, faithful to the principles of civic virtue and public reason, has signed the act dismissing Citizen Jürgen Fargen from his duties as Professor of Foreign Literature at the University of Eustata.

It has been established that, upon the fifth day of Felinoz, the said Citizen Fargen, having mounted his university chair, spoke in favor of the abolished parental right to strike one’s children, and uttered reprehensible criticisms against the Republican system of national education, which is obligatory and equal for all children of the Republic.

During his speech, he was several times interrupted by resounding cries of “Boo!” from the patriotic auditors. Numerous district societies of citizens have since saluted the act of the Citizen-Commander, declaring that every man and woman, from birth unto death, belongs to the Republic; that every professor of the Republic of Guntreland is bound by honor and duty to teach civism, respect for the Constitution and the laws, human dignity, and legal equality among all citizens; and that those who profess doctrines contrary to these sacred principles constitute a public danger which must be excised from the body of the Nation.

STATE OF THE PRISONS OF THE REPUBLIC

According to the most recent Bulletin of the Police Authority, the number of detainees presently confined within the House of Honesty in Estana amounts to 9,721, while those held in other penitentiary establishments of the Republic together number 470,463.

These figures, while grave, attest to the vigilant energy of our civic magistrates and to the incorruptible firmness of the laws of Liberty.
