Grenn Forest
Forest
Grenn forest is an ancient mixed forest located north of the Region of Kilden, covering a large part of the district of Vöhren. It is one of the oldest forests in the area and was once part of a larger forest called Wingchere. However, large parts came victim to deforestation and overfarming. The pieces that are left are currently protected by the locals. Collecting wood is restricted to dedicated areas or sick and dead trees.   Grenn forest is mainly used for agroforestry, where animals and crops are kept in the forest. Examples are herds of sheep, cattle, and chicken or plants like berries, suitable vegetables, and nuts. Use of Grenn forest is limited to those possessing shares of the district of Vöhren or Aegheria.   Due to the different ecosystems, Grenn forest has a great variety of plant and animal species. There are areas of deciduous trees and pines, heather fields, and waterlogged areas because of the river Kild.

Location

Grenn Forest is located in Region of Kilden. The Region of Kilden is a rural area stretching across parts of the Kingdoms of the Netherlands, Prussia and the former Kingdom of Hanover (annexed in 1866). It is known to be established by local tribes in the area that formed an alliance or collaboration to share knowledge, land and resources. The exact borders are unknown, but archaeological research found land defences (land wehrs) on the location of the current outer borders that could have marked the area of the region. Also, boundary stones (marked stones) have been found.
